Prescription medicines: we show the safer name
Your site never shows a prescription medicine's name. It shows a safer name for the treatment, and patients who search for the medicine still find it.
What happens
- A treatment that uses a prescription-only medicine appears on your site as a consultation, named after what it treats. For example, Consultation for lines and wrinkles.
- The medicine's name, and its brand names, are never shown on your site. Not in page text, headings, menus, page addresses, photo descriptions, search results or what Google shows.
- A patient who types the medicine's name into your site search finds that consultation page. People search for the name they know, so it still leads them somewhere useful.
- Medicine names are accepted only as hidden search words, which are never shown on a page.
Why this rule
UK law does not allow prescription-only medicines to be advertised to the public, and your website counts as advertising. Showing the safer name keeps the medicine out of your advertising, while patients can still find you.
Which treatments it covers
We set each treatment's type when your site is set up.
What we suggest for consultation pages (your call)
- Explain the concern, and what happens at the consultation.
- Name who the patient will see.
- Keep offers, reviews and before and after photos for your other treatments.
